You are not your job title

I really don't like when someone comes to me and says, well, I'm a lawyer. Dude, you're a lawyer, but you're not a lawyer. You're not just a lawyer. You might do the things lawyers do, but you're not really a lawyer. You're also a father, maybe. You're also someone who goes to the gym. You're also an athlete. You're also maybe someone who just likes video games. You're also maybe someone who loves his family and stuff like that. You could be anyone. So just don't identify with a single thing. Don't identify at all.
I don't like titles because they're really false. It's just a huge downgrade to take something so special, or so unique. I mean, what are the odds? What are the odds, dude? And you take it and you simplify it into a single line of text. That to me is one of the worst things someone could do, is just give a title. Of course you are, I don't know, maybe you are a founder, you are an entrepreneur, you are this, you are that, but don't be just a single one. You could be anyone. You could be anything.
And just think about it. I was thinking the other day how liberating it is for someone to just be a doctor, a very successful doctor in his 40s, and he just says, you know what, fuck all of this, let me switch, maybe I like teaching. How liberating that is. Just thinking about it, it's just super cool. Imagine someone who's been a doctor for 10 years and one day he wakes up and says, fuck this, I'm going to start teaching, dude. Maybe I could get into physics. I would just start all over again, I would just go and start learning physics. That's super cool. Why don't people do that? This is something I really don't understand.
