I finally stuck with working out

Transcript

Let's just get started. So first of all, when you work out, or when you want to get in shape, you do it for life. You don't think I'm going to work out for a year because you watched a motivational or a transformation video. You work out because you want to be healthy and fit for a lifetime. Just have that in mind, because why is this important? Because it reduces the stress, or the expectation. If you're not fit in one year after working out, that's totally fine, because you have 10 years, 20 years to be so.

Last time I went to gym, or I tried going to gym, I started building a habit. I just said to myself, I'm not going to focus on any goal. The only goal I'm going to focus on is reps. How many times I go, how many times I work out. I actually started home at the start, but then I started going to gym. And then when I go to gym, I was only focused on getting there. Sometimes I would go to gym and stay for 15 minutes, sometimes 20, sometimes 10. Sometimes I'm like, I'm actually very motivated, and I would stay for 40 minutes.

But the fact of going, right now there is no way I would see myself skipping gym, no matter what my state is. I would probably stop for even two weeks when I'm on a holiday, but I would come back after two weeks and be as motivated as if I didn't ever skip, because the habit is so embedded in me right now. And this is the most important part. Build a habit first.

Aesthetics is a byproduct. I think this one is hard, because a lot of people go to the gym for aesthetics, because they want to look good, and there is nothing wrong with that. No, even me, I care about aesthetics. Everyone cares about aesthetics. It's just, don't make it the center of the thing.

Athleticism is what matters. A ton of people go to gym and they just build strength. That really matters inside the gym. I think when workout shines, and really gives its rainbows and flowers and all of it, is when you actually use it. And you use it in things like hiking, things like sports, things like playing football, things like, I don't know, being able to do groceries with both hands, because you've been doing farmer's walks for four years, and you can just hold a kid here and still take the groceries all the way home. Like this kind of a thing. I think that is when workout shines.

Gym is very simple. Workout is very simple. Don't track, it's really useless. The only thing I would track is quarter by quarter, like three months. Every three months you go and track weight. Or every two months you track some measurements, maybe weight, maybe progress on some workouts. But honestly, weekly tracking, daily tracking, food tracking as well, all useless. You're just making it hard on yourself.

Patience, dude. Patience is the thing, you know. Just be patient, try to enjoy it. Yeah, especially try to enjoy it. Workout just does a lot of things to a human body, more than any kind of activity. It really helps with stress. Try to enjoy it.

Really start as low as you can. I used to remember, my first workout was assisted push-ups. I started working out doing just assisted push-ups, and I would do three.

The thing is that people try to make it perfect from the start. Just get started. You will realize that some things need to change. Don't wait for someone to create a workout plan for you. Just go out there and start. It doesn't have to be perfect.
